Dear neighbors,
This month is followed by much enthusiasm district wide! I strived this month to increase conversations with neighbors regarding lowering property taxes, allocating more state funding for the community, and creating a strong sense of belonging within the district. Town hall meetings were of great attendance, and more importantly a positive stride for the community. Prioritizing the needs of the surrounding Park Districts and their facilities has been one of my goals this month, and listening to the wonderful park coordinators was such a pleasure. Neighbors, I hear and see you, and will continue to advocate for you all across the district!
Our team has been working diligently this month, to host a Back to School event in collaboration with Senator Omar Aquino. It is with excitement that I announce, free book bags, school supplies, food, youth and adult resources, and a variety of indoor and outdoor activities will be provided! This is a great opportunity for our community to come together with family and friends, for some amazing back to school festivities. We hope to see you all there, and look forward to another great month in the 4th district!

Back to School Family Fair
Prepare your children for this upcoming school year by attending State Senator Omar Aquino's and my office's Annual Back to School Fair at Prosser Career Academy on August 5th from 10am-2pm.

I have heard that many of you have issues with access to fresh produce, violence, and the increase in property taxes in the area. I want you to know that I hear you and I agree that these are massive issues in this community and I will be the voice for you all when it comes to talking about these matters at the table.
I am also collecting feedback from you all to help shape my legislative priorities for next year's legislative session. I want to know what you care about and I am excited to hear any questions or concerns you may have in regards to problems in the community or state-level.

Rental Assistance
The Department of Family and Support Services offers a Rental Assistance Program (RAP) that provides cash assistance to low-income households at risk of becoming homeless due to eviction, loss of income or another emergency. Eligibility is based on household income and proof of a qualifying event.

CCHR enforces the Chicago Human Rights Ordinance and the Chicago Fair Housing Ordinance
Education is key to preventing and alleviating discrimination, hate crimes, and inter-group tensions. The Chicago Commission on Human Relations (CCHR) conducts workshops and peace circles for schools, community groups, religious institutions, and agencies on a variety of topics, including bullying and conflict resolution. These workshops and peace circles can be facilitated as a package, or they can be delivered individually.
Workshop Specifics:
All workshops are free of charge.
Workshops are designed for all ages: Kindergarten, 2nd-5th, 6th-8th and 8th-12th grades, college, adults and seniors (staff and administrators).
The length of the workshop is customized to your time frame.
The workshop can be facilitated in one session, or it can be divided up into multiple sessions.
Workshop Formats: Peace Circle format and the more traditional workshop format of facing the front of the room. Handouts will be provided.
Requests for audio visual equipment will be discussed (if needed).
All workshops can be facilitated in English and several in Spanish.

Public Assistance: Child Care Assistance Program
The Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) provides cash assistance to qualifying families with one or more children under the age of 13. Eligibility is based on household income or other criteria such as the parent’s age and participation in education or work opportunities. There are no waiting lists and all families who qualify receive some assistance.

ABOUT THE FUND
The Chicago Resiliency Fund 2.0 is a $14.68 million commitment from Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot and the Department of Family and Support Services to provide up to 25,500 eligible Chicago residents with a one-time, $500 relief payment. The fund is intended to support residents who had difficulty accessing and qualifying for federal relief payments in 2020 and 2021.
The fund is now accepting applications from all three eligible populations:
Households who claimed dependents 17 years or older in their 2019 taxes,
Domestic workers, and/or
Undocumented residents.
To check if you’re eligible, review the eligibility criteria below.
Heartland Human Care Services is the official program administrator for the fund. The application is hosted by technology partner AidKit and the organizations selected to intake applications and lead outreach are:
Association House Chicago (1116 N. Kedzie) – 2019 tax filers with dependent youth ages 17-24
Chinese Mutual Aid Association (1016 W. Argyle St #3715) – 2019 tax filers with dependent adults ages 25+
Heartland Human Care Services (2732 N. Kedzie) – undocumented residents
YWCA Metropolitan Chicago (1 N. LaSalle St Suite 1700) – domestic workers
There are also many additional Community-Based Organizations across Chicago participating in this project by getting the word out to residents, assisting them with completing interest forms and applications, and providing support.
There are two different application processes for the Fund. Please read carefully to ensure you understand the requirements and participate in the correct process for the group you fall under.

SOBRE EL FONDO

The Chicago Community Trust - General Operating Grant
Building Pathways to Stability: Essential Services – Addressing Critical Needs
While the Trust’s strategic focus is on closing the racial and ethnic wealth gap, we recognize Chicago families are facing unstable living situations or living in unsafe circumstances. That is why the Trust supports essential service organizations that address the critical needs of individuals and families.
Building Pathways to Stability provides funding to organizations whose core work is to provide essential services in:
Addressing housing insecurity or homelessness
Decreasing food insecurity
Increasing access to health care for residents encountering barriers
Responding to residents in need of emergency clothing and supplies
These multi-year, general operating grants will span three years. Yearly grant amounts will be between $25,000 and $80,000. Grant sizes will vary based on organizational size and need. These grants will support general operations; however, grant recipients will be required to report on progress toward outcomes and related measures of progress each year of the grant.
