Dear neighbors,
I want to thank everyone that stopped by our Coffee with Lilian event this weekend.
It was a pleasure hearing directly from community members and having the opportunity to discuss concerns that you have had in our neighborhoods. The work I do as a Legislator in Springfield is a direct representation of the needs of our community and I will make sure I continue working with our community members to implement and improve policies in the state. Thank you to Cafe Calida for hosting us and allowing us to share this space with our neighbors.
In the last month, I have had the honor of visiting a number of non-profit organizations and associations in the district that provide programs and resources to our diverse communities. I want to thank Onward House, Community Health, The Bloc, Humboldt Park Health, UCAN, Spanish Coalition for Housing, Family Focus, Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center, Self Reliance Association for meeting with my staff and I. It was a pleasure to tour their facilities and discuss ways our office can support and work alongside them so we can continue building a coalition of strong leaders and sustainable organizations across the 4th District.

Rental Assistance
The Department of Family and Support Services offers a Rental Assistance Program (RAP) that provides cash assistance to low-income households at risk of becoming homeless due to eviction, loss of income or another emergency. Eligibility is based on household income and proof of a qualifying event.

The City of Chicago is committed to ensuring that hardworking Chicagoans can access FREE tax services to file their returns and claim their tax refunds. The City of Chicago works with its nonprofit partner, Ladder Up, to offer free tax help throughout the tax season and at various points in the off-season.

Please refer to the “Eligibility and What to Bring” tab at the top of the page to ensure you have all your documents and are eligible for free services. Many parents and guardians are eligible for the Child Tax Credit and many people are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit. Be sure to check with your tax preparer for eligibility.
Note: The tax deadline for the 2022 Tax Year is Tuesday, April 18, 2023. If you file an extension before the April deadline, the deadline to file your income taxes is October 17, 2023.

CCHR enforces the Chicago Human Rights Ordinance and the Chicago Fair Housing Ordinance
Education is key to preventing and alleviating discrimination, hate crimes, and inter-group tensions. The Chicago Commission on Human Relations (CCHR) conducts workshops and peace circles for schools, community groups, religious institutions, and agencies on a variety of topics, including bullying and conflict resolution. These workshops and peace circles can be facilitated as a package, or they can be delivered individually.
Workshop Specifics:
All workshops are free of charge.
Workshops are designed for all ages: Kindergarten, 2nd-5th, 6th-8th and 8th-12th grades, college, adults and seniors (staff and administrators).
The length of the workshop is customized to your time frame.
The workshop can be facilitated in one session, or it can be divided up into multiple sessions.
Workshop Formats: Peace Circle format and the more traditional workshop format of facing the front of the room. Handouts will be provided.
Requests for audio visual equipment will be discussed (if needed).
All workshops can be facilitated in English and several in Spanish.

ABOUT THE FUND
The Chicago Resiliency Fund 2.0 is a $14.68 million commitment from Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot and the Department of Family and Support Services to provide up to 25,500 eligible Chicago residents with a one-time, $500 relief payment. The fund is intended to support residents who had difficulty accessing and qualifying for federal relief payments in 2020 and 2021.
The fund is now accepting applications from all three eligible populations:
Households who claimed dependents 17 years or older in their 2019 taxes,
Domestic workers, and/or
Undocumented residents.

Heartland Human Care Services is the official program administrator for the fund. The application is hosted by technology partner AidKit and the organizations selected to intake applications and lead outreach are:
Association House Chicago (1116 N. Kedzie) – 2019 tax filers with dependent youth ages 17-24
Chinese Mutual Aid Association (1016 W. Argyle St #3715) – 2019 tax filers with dependent adults ages 25+
Heartland Human Care Services (2732 N. Kedzie) – undocumented residents
YWCA Metropolitan Chicago (1 N. LaSalle St Suite 1700) – domestic workers
There are also many additional Community-Based Organizations across Chicago participating in this project by getting the word out to residents, assisting them with completing interest forms and applications, and providing support.
There are two different application processes for the Fund. Please read carefully to ensure you understand the requirements and participate in the correct process for the group you fall under.

SOBRE EL FONDO
El Chicago Resiliency Fund 2.0 es un compromiso de $14,68 millones de la alcaldesa Lori E. Lightfoot y el Departamento de Servicios Familiares y de Apoyo para proporcionar hasta 25 500 residentes elegibles de Chicago con un pago de ayuda único de $500. The Chicago Community Trust - General Operating Grant
Building Pathways to Stability: Essential Services – Addressing Critical Needs
While the Trust’s strategic focus is on closing the racial and ethnic wealth gap, we recognize Chicago families are facing unstable living situations or living in unsafe circumstances. That is why the Trust supports essential service organizations that address the critical needs of individuals and families.
Building Pathways to Stability provides funding to organizations whose core work is to provide essential services in:
Addressing housing insecurity or homelessness
Decreasing food insecurity
Increasing access to health care for residents encountering barriers
Responding to residents in need of emergency clothing and supplies
These multi-year, general operating grants will span three years. Yearly grant amounts will be between $25,000 and $80,000. Grant sizes will vary based on organizational size and need. These grants will support general operations; however, grant recipients will be required to report on progress toward outcomes and related measures of progress each year of the grant.
